ESLR Check:
Each year students set goals for themselves on how they will improve their personal habits in education. Throughout the year, some stick to them and some do not. My goal this year was to be more involved as an iPoly student and promote the social life of attending the institution. In doing so, I have created the Companion Club this past semester which had the purpose of welcoming all freshmen and transfer students to become acquainted with the school. The first few weeks went great in terms of attendance, but having a strong agenda and a clear set goal was my weakened point. This was my first experiment on how to run a successful club for my leadership senior project, but I fell short quickly. As a leader, I needed to have a mission statement, strong agenda, and a clear goal for the day. I believe that these three elements would have managed the club and have a more useful purpose.
My plans on how to become an effective learner for the second semester is to initiate the Activities club and prevent mistakes I had made with the Companion Club. By having the three elements previously stated, I believe that this new club will make a difference and will have meaning to iPoly citizens if and only if they are willing to attend. The mission statement is the base of everything that I will be doing. Everything that I do for the club must serve for the purpose and follow the mission statement, like an essential question. I need to have a strong agenda so that students will want to be in the club and stay in the club. Each meeting needs to have a clear goal, and that goal has to tie in within the mission statement. The Activities’ Club mission statement is to provide an opportunity for those who are willing to make new friends and give an enthusiastic environment through the activities on and off campus. I feel that this mission statement will help guide me to have a strong agenda and a clear goal that will result in fulfilling this ultimate goal, thus becoming a strong effective learner.
