Independent Study 2: Please disregard, the program on Blogger messed all my text in a column from the jpeg images. The order of questions are in 3, 1, 2. My sincere apologies.
3. Literal
I, Eric Torres, affirm that I completed my independent component, which represents 30 hours of work.
My independent task was to run the Activities Club and focus on the primary objective in building community within this organization as well as creating activities for student who want to seek making new friends and/ or enjoy their high school lives through various activities on and off campus. This club is running effectively to this day and will continue to run until the end of the school year.
Interpretative
Starting a new club right off the ground is no easy task. Each day I took between 30 minutes to two hours per day working on small or large component that would help the club run on its feet. Discussing my thoughts on my journal for improvements for the club was also included for most days that I worked anything related to the Activities Club. An example of doing a small component for the club would be discussing ideas or future events with Purthe. A large component task would be taking a trip to Laser Island and verifying that the venue would be appropriate for all students. Advertising was another big component that added to the thirty hours, and it takes a lot of patience on getting the right pictures for the specific event that is being hosted. Club meetings were important for keeping the club in a structured and orderly fashion. As our progress grows, our organization grows and everyone becomes focused on what is needed to get the task done.
Applied:
This club helped me experience the importance of two of my essential answers: building a mission statement and positive on going communication. Every event that is hosted needs to related back to the mission statement like an essential question. The mission statement for the club is to provide a social opportunity for students who want to make new friends or enjoy their high school lives through various friendly activities on and off campus. It is very important that people enjoy themselves through the services we provide and it is our job that our activities remain friendly and fun for everyone. An example of this would be Laser Tag night. There was a freshman who supported the club by simply playing Laser Tag. He seemed a bit lost at first, but I introduced myself to him and invited him to our table with the other I-Poly kids. It was a table full of people and everyone enjoyed themselves. This is the product of the Activities Club.
The Activities Club allowed me to take notice of my positive communication with one another as well as everyone else’s. I took good observations on how negative comments can make the atmosphere feel shut down. As cliché as it sounds, when someone says a joke we all laugh. I try to keep the atmosphere in a positive feeling because more production is progressed and everyone has a good time, which binds us closer together.
